Day two was a little tricky. Once I went out and downloaded the release of Data ONTAP i wanted, I dropped it into filer etc software, and I was ready to do the upgrade. What actually happens on the filer, and what upgrade manager tells you to do can differ quite a bit. If you have snapmirrors running, stop them. In this case that means taking the resident NetApp A200 that handles the bullk of our storage needs from ONTAP 9.3 to ONTAP 9.4. The NetApp software upgrade process is as easy and foolproof as they come and is non-disruptive, meaning the storage stays online during the upgrade process.

1 year agoJust after insight from some of the other storage admins on here.. Freepbx ivr tutorial for beginners.
What kind of policies do you guys have in place for keeping Ontap and disk/shelf firmware up to date? - How often would you perform updates normally? Do you hold back until a couple of P releases are out?
We have a couple of clusters currently running 9.1p3 (which was latest available when they were commissioned) my employers have no guidance or polices on system updates/firmware etc - but i would like to implement something to keep these relatively up to date for supportability, to avoid the situation we ended up with our old 7m controllers which are now stuck on 8.1.2 (nothing is broken, why risk an upgrade!) and also almost as a regular test for failover etc.
Thanks in advance!

Hello we are due to upgrade systems from 9.3P6 to 9.5P5, as most of you will be aware there is a pretty big bug around certificates and 9.2, the following article also mentions that systems on 9.1 and earlier upgrading past 9.2 will also inherit this bug:
At quick glance when you read the affected systems an upgrade from 9.3 to 9.5 shouldn't be affected but in this cluster's history it has been on 9.1 at some point in its life. My question is this, does this fact it was on 9.1 at some point in its career mean we will hit this bug even though we are running 9.3P6 at present?
